چکیده

Detection of nearby nodes in wireless ad hoc networks requires periodic neighborhood scanning which is rather costly in terms of energy: The nodes transmit the discovery packets and, furthermore, their reception circuits have to be active most of the time. Since distributed moving group detection algorithms rely on detecting nearby nodes, this kind of overhead is unavoidable. However, in most of the scenarios some fixed infrastructure co-exist which may support the detection process. In this paper we propose a method that uses the infrastructure to gain hints about moving groups and switches on the distributed process only if there is some degree of confidence that such a group exists. This reduces the overhead of the neighborhood scans by approximately 90% translating to longer lifetime of the battery-driven nodes.

The 17th Annual IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC’06) TUNING OLSR

Optimised Link State Routing (OLSR) is a popular protocol for use in MANET networks. In this paper, we investigate the different impacts of tuning refresh interval timers on OLSR performance under various scenarios (varying node density and node speed). Based on the simulation results with NS2, we find that although reducing refresh intervals could improve OLSR’s performance, the intervals for ...

The 17th Annual IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC’06) MIMO CHANNEL MEASUREMENTS AND ANALYSIS WITH PROTOTYPE USER DEVICES IN A 2GHz URBAN CELL

This paper describes an outdoor MIMO measurement campaign conducted in the 2GHz band employing a sounding bandwidth of 20MHz. The study aimed to compare the MIMO performance of two prototype devices with a reference dipole antenna module. The results obtained reveal a systematic blocking of one of the PDA antenna ports with the user’s thumb alongside a significant reduction in the available MIM...

The 17th Annual IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC’06) IMPLEMENTATION OF LOW POWER AND HIGH-SPEED HIGHER ORDER CHANNEL FILTERS FOR SOFTWARE RADIO RECEIVERS

The most computationally intensive part of the wideband receiver of a software defined radio (SDR) is the channelizer since it operates at the highest sampling rate. Higher order FIR channel filters are needed in the channelizer to meet the stringent adjacent channel attenuation specifications of wireless communications standards. In this paper, we present a coefficient-partitioning algorithm f...

In this paper, we present a self sufficient and distributed localization algorithm for wireless sensor networks that does not require any external infrastructure support to estimate sensor node coordinates. Our algorithm uses measured inter-node distances and localizes the entire network in a local coordinate system upto a global translation, rotation and reflection. Using TOSSIM simulations, w...

The 17th Annual IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC’06) PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF THE IEEE 802.11 DISTRIBUTED COORDINA- TION FUNCTION WITH UNICAST AND BROADCAST TRAFFIC

Most studies on performance of IEEE 802.11 DCF networks do not contemplate the existence of broadcast traffic. They model network behaviour in presence of unicast traffic alone. In a real scenario, broadcast frames exist, and they will influence the overall network behaviour. This work presents a new traffic generalized model for CSMA/CA saturated single-hop networks able to describe the networ...
